Title: I Will The Beatles - Double White Album
Credits: John Lennon - Paul McCartney
Recorded: EMI Studios, London, 16 September, 1968
Producer: George Martin
Engineer: Ken Scott
Location: The Beatles - track 16, disc 1

A Pleasant McCartney ballad recorded by Paul, John and Ringo on 16 and 17 September 1968. A 28-second session of an ad-libbed and untitled musical item busked by Paul during the first of the two sessions, along the lines of "Can you take me back where I came from, can you take me back?", ended up elsewhere on the The Beatles, slotted between Cry Baby Cry and Revolution 9.

The Beatles recorded 'I Will' in 67 takes (1 - 67), not all of them complete. These takes were recorded using a four-track tape machine with Paul McCartney singing and playing acoustic guitar, Ringo Starr playing maraca and tapping cymbals, and John Lennon tapping out a beat with wood on metal. It was decided take 65 was "best" and this was transferred to eight track (take 65 into take 68). The next day, September 17, Paul added a backing vocal, a vocal impersonation of a bass guitar, and a second acoustic guitar. The mono mix was prepared September 26 (remixes 1 and 2 from take 68) and the stereo mix was done October 14 (remix 1 from take 68).

Take 1 from the September 16, 1968 recording session was released in both the US and the UK on October 29, 1996 on "The Beatles Anthology Volume 3."

During the taping of take 19 of 'I Will' the group ad-libbed the piece "Can you take me back where I came from, can you take me back?" This piece lasted 2'21" and a 28-second section, from 1'51" to 2'19" was included on the LP "The Beatles" between 'Cry Baby Cry' and 'Revolution No. 9'.
