The Beatles began recording 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey' on June 27, 1968. Six takes of the rhythm track were recorded (1 - 6) with the last being "best." At this point the song lasted 3'07" but after a reduction mix (take 6 into takes 7 and 8) with the tape machine running at 43 cycles per second, instead of 50 to sound speeded up on replay, the song ran 2'29". Overdubs were added to take 8. The song now consisted of drums, two lead guitars, a hand-bell and a chucalho.

Paul McCartney added his bass guitar to take 8 on July 1 and after another reduction mix-down (take 8 into takes 9 and 10) John Lennon added his lead vocal to take 10. On July 23, John added a new vocal and after a reduction mix (take 10 into takes 11 and 12) handclaps and backing vocals were added to take 12. Five mono mixes of take 12 were prepared this day, one of which has been bootlegged and can be found on "Unsurpassed Masters 4" (CD). Both the stereo and mono mixes used for release were prepared October 12 in one attempt each; both numbered remix one.
