An uncomplicated number (and one of my favourites), something like a skiffle parody,
written by Paul and recorded by the Beatles in one session. The song appears over the
imaginative closing credits in Yellow Submarine.
Nine takes were recorded with number nine being "best" and
subjected to numerous overdubs - two acoustic guitars, a harmonica, bass drum,
a triangle, bass guitar, horn and handclaps. Six mono mixes were prepared this
day also. The stereo mix was done October 29, 1968 in one attempt. This stereo
mix was released on the "Yellow Submarine" LP in the UK on January
13, 1969.
The mono version of the UK LP "Yellow Submarine" has the stereo
mix with the tracks combined to simulate mono, rather than a unique, separate
mono mix.
During rehearsals for the aborted "Get Back" film/album project
John sang a brief bit from this McCartney number (10.1). This performance has
been bootlegged.
