Paul McCartney conceived his idea for a Beatles television film, Magical Mystery Tour, while in the USA after completing 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', jotting down ideas on his 11 April return flight. From that point on the project was prominent in the Beatles' 1967 plans, even though the filming did not commence until 11 September. This title song, written by Paul and begun on 25 April, was finally completed seven months later, on 7 November; the filming took seven weeks.
