The album's second John Lennon ode to drugs, the lyric referring to a real life Doctor Roberts who, allegedly, would administer drugs on request from his New York City practice.
The Beatles recorded Doctor Robert in seven takes were done, all backing tracks. At this point, the song ran 2'56". Vocal overdubs onto take seven were done on April 19, and three mono mixes were made, however, none was ever released.
Mono remix four was prepared May 12 for release on the US LP "Yesterday...And Today." Some minor editing was also done to this mix this day. On May 20 two stereo mixes of this song were made, remix 1 for the US and re-mix 2 for the UK. Again, some editing was done to each mix this day. On June 21 three new mono mixes were created, mixes 5 - 7 (numbered 4 - 6). Mono mix seven (numbered 6) was used for release in the UK after some additional editing.
On the US mono release of the LP "Yesterday... And Today" some mumbling can be heard when the song is done.
