The Beatles spent nine hours on working on I'm Looking Through You,
perfecting a rhythm track and then overdubbing lead and harmony vocals on to this new Paul
McCartney composition.
They recorded one take this day with overdubs. The
Beatles were not satisfied with this version and they attempted to re-make the
song November 6 in two more takes (2 - 3). These takes were also not
satisfactory and the song was re-made one last time - take four - on November
10, beginning with the rhythm track. The vocals were superimposed onto take
four on November 11. Both the mono and stereo mixes were prepared November 15.
The mono release is longer than the stereo due to the length of the fade-out.
On the US stereo release of "Rubber Soul" this track has been
reprocessed and includes two false starts which are not included on other
releases.
On April 30, 1987 the album "Rubber Soul" was
released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. George Martin remixed the
album in stereo for this release.
Take 1 from the October 24, 1965 recording session was
released in both the US and the UK on March 19, 1996 on "The
Beatles Anthology Volume 2."
