Lyrically and musically perfect, this is 25-year-old John Lennon's nostalgic look back at his life thus far. The baroque style piano solo is played by George Martin.
The Beatles recorded three takes, two of which were complete. On October 22, the middle eight piano solo was superimposed onto take three. The mono and stereo mixes were created October 25 and 26 respectively.
This track was reprocessed for the US stereo LP "Rubber Soul" released December 6, 1965. On April 30, 1987 the album, "Rubber Soul" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. George Martin remixed the album in stereo for this release.
George Harrison performed this song at several concerts during his 1974 North American tour including the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia (November 2), the Seattle Centre Coliseum in Seattle, Washington (November 4), Long Beach, California (November 10), Fort Worth, Texas (November 22), Chicago, Illinois (November 30), Largo, Maryland (December 13) and an evening show at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York (December 15).
