The Beatles recorded 'Words Of Love' on July 16, 1963 for BBC Radio's "Pop Go The Beatles" episode which aired August 20. This recording has been bootlegged.

The Beatles recorded 'Words Of Love' on October 18, 1964 for release on their album "Beatles For Sale." The song was recorded in three takes, however, only two were complete. Take three was used for release. The mono mix was prepared October 26, the stereo mix was completed November 4.

Paul McCartney appeared on the BBC-2 television special "Buddy Holly" on September 12, 1985. During this appearance, Paul performed a brief acoustic bit of this song. This performance has been bootlegged and can be found on "Twice In A Lifetime."


The Beatle's only officially-recorded cover version of a Buddy Holly song. Holly lovers all (the word Beatles was itself a play on the name of his backing group, the Crickets), the Beatles chose not to cover any other Holly songs they loved and once performed so regularly in their stage act, among which were It's So Easy, Maybe Baby, Peggy Sue, That'll be The Day, Think It Over, Crying, Waiting, Hoping, Mailman, bring Me No More Blues and Reminiscing.
