The Beatles taped themselves rehearsing 'I'll Follow The
Sun' sometime during 1960. Some experts believe this rehearsal session may
have been recorded in Liverpool or at the Indra Club in Hamburg, Germany. This
recording has been bootlegged.
The Beatles recorded 'I'll Follow The Sun' on October
18, 1964 for release on their LP, "Beatles For Sale." The song was
completed in eight takes, take eight being used for release. The mono mix was
prepared on October 21; the stereo mix was prepared on November 4. When this
song was released in the US on the stereo LP "Beatles '65", this
track was reprocessed.
On February 26, 1987 the album "Beatles For
Sale" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format.
Originally, a new stereo mix was prepared for this release; however, George
Martin later remixed the album in mono. The new mono mix is found on the CD
release of the album "Beatles For Sale."
The Beatles recorded this song on November 17, 1964 for
BBC Radio's "Top Gear" which aired November 26. This recording was
released in both the US and the UK in March 1995 as a bonus track on The
Beatles' 'Baby, It's You' CD single.
The Beatles performed this song at the Hammersmith Odeon
on December 10, 1965. This recording is also available as a bootleg.
