The Beatles recorded 'I'll Cry Instead' in two parts - Section A and Section B - on June 1, 1964 for release on the album "A Hard Day's Night." They recorded six takes of Section A (1 - 6) and two takes of Section B (7 - 8). These sections were edited together on June 4,1964 after mono mixes were made of takes six and eight. A stereo mix was prepared on June 22 using the same takes. A 2'04" edit appears to have been created for use in the film "A Hard Day's Night" by editing the first verse back into the song. The US release of the "A Hard Day's Night" LP contains the mono version of this song. The 1'44" edit was reprocessed by Capitol on the US stereo LP "Something New."
On February 26, 1987 the album "A Hard Day's Night" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. Originally, a new stereo mix was prepared for this release; however, George Martin later remixed the album in mono. The new mono mix is found on the CD release of the album "A Hard Day's Night."
