This song, like the previous years Do You Want To Know A Secret, was a John Lennon composition sung here by George Harrison. (George would not otherwise have featured on lead vocal on the 13-song album.) Recorded during a session which also saw the recording of two songs destined not for the album but for the EP Long Tall Sally.
The Beatles recorded 'I'm Happy Just To Dance With You' in four takes. Take four was used for release on the album "A Hard Day's Night." The mono mix was prepared March 3; the stereo mix on June 22. The US LP "A Hard Day's Night" contains the unique mono version of this song.
In the spring of 1976 George Martin remixed a stereo version of 'I'm Happy Just To Dance With You' in Los Angeles for the LP "Rock 'N' Roll Music." This album was released in the US on June 7, 1976 and in the UK on June 11, 1976. The original UK release of this LP consisted of direct transfers of the early master tapes, until October 1980, when the double-LP was issued as two single budget label LP's. At that time the new George Martin remixes were used.
On February 26, 1987 the album, "A Hard Day's Night" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. Originally, a new stereo mix was prepared for this release; however, George Martin later remixed the album in mono. The new mono mix is found on the CD release of the album "A Hard Day's Night."
On July 17, 1964 The Beatles recorded their fourth BBC Radio special, "From Us To You," which was aired August 3. An instrumental version of ' I'm Happy Just To Dance With You' (cut from the broadcast) and the aired version have both been bootlegged.
