The Beatles recorded two takes of 'And I Love Her' on February 25, 1964, only take 2 was a complete run through. This version was not acceptable, however, it was released in both the US and the UK on November 21, 1995 on "The Beatles Anthology Volume 1." The Beatles attempted a re-make on February 26, 1964. On this day, they attempted takes 3 -19 and Ringo had begun playing claves and bongos, but the song was still not quite right. On February 27, The Beatles attempted to record this song yet again. This time only two takes were needed (20 - 21). Mono re-mix 1 was completed on March 3, 1964 and was given to Capital and United Artists. Mono re-mix 2 and the stereo mix were completed on June 22, 1964. Take 21 was used for all the released versions.

Paul's vocals are double-tracked for the entire song, except for the two lines in the third verse beginning with "Bright are the stars that shine..." on both the British mono and stereo releases. It is on these releases that the cough is heard immediately before the instrumental break, and Paul sustains his ending note much longer. On the US mono release of the LP "A Hard Day's Night" this song, as heard in the film, is single-tracked except for the "And I lover her" repeated at the end of each verse. The line beginning with "A love like ours could never die..." is also double-tracked. On the German release of "Something New" this song contains two extra repeats of the closing guitar riff.

On February 26, 1987 the album "A Hard Day's Night" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. Originally, a new stereo mix was prepared for this release; however, George Martin later remixed the album in mono. The new mono mix is found on the CD release of the album "A Hard Day's Night."

The Beatles recorded this song on July 14, 1964 for BBC Radio's "Top Gear" which aired July 16. This performance has been bootlegged.

Paul McCartney taped an appearance on MTV's "Unplugged" television show on January 25, 1991. The appearance aired in the US on April 3, 1991. This performance was released in the UK on May 20, 1991 and in the US on June 4, 1991 on the album "Unplugged (The Official Bootleg)."

This song was also performed at Paul's "secret gigs" on May 10, 1991 at London's Mean Fiddler Club. This performance has been bootlegged and can be found on "What A Mean Fiddler" (CD).

During his 1993 New World Tour Paul performed this song at several concerts including Milan (February 19), Frankfurt (February 23), Melbourne (March 9), Sydney (March 16), Las Vegas (April 14), Anaheim (April 17), Paris (October 13), Tokyo (November 12) and Mexico City (November 27). All of these performances have been bootlegged. Paul also performed this song at a rehearsal following his press conference at the London Arena on February 5, 1993. This performance has also been bootlegged.
