Rhythm and Blues singer Arthur Alexander, who was a particular favourite of John's, first released this in March 1962 on the B-side of another British beat boom staple You Better Move On.
The Beatles recorded 'A Shot Of Rhythm And Blues' on June 1, 1963 for the BBC Radio series "Pop Go The Beatles" episode which aired June 18. They recorded the song once more on July 17, 1963 for the BBC Radio show "Easy Beat" which aired July 21. The song was recorded one last time on August 1, 1963 for the BBC Radio series "Pop Go The Beatles" episode which aired August 27. The first two performances have been bootlegged; the third is this release from the Live At The BBC.
On January 7, 1969 during rehearsals for the aborted "Get Back" film/album project The Beatles recorded a complete performance of this song. This recording has been bootlegged.
