An all-girl group cover version, Devil In Her Heart was originally "Devil In His Heart" by the Donays, written by Richard Drapkin. George sings lead vocal for the Beatles.
The Beatles recorded 'Devil In Her Heart' on July 18, 1963. Three takes with three overdubs were recorded the released version being take six. The mono mix was prepared August 21, the stereo mix on October 29. The track first appeared on the album "With The Beatles" released November 22, 1963. When Capital released this track on the US LP "Meet The Beatles" the stereo version was reprocessed with echo and reverb added. It has been reported that on the Mexican LP "The Beatles Volume III" (Capital SLEM 045) the song's final line "she's an angel sent to me" was deleted.
On February 26, 1987 the album "With The Beatles" was released in both the US and the UK on the CD format. Originally, a new stereo mix was prepared for this release; however, George Martin later remixed the album in mono. The new mono mix is found on the CD release of the album "With The Beatles."
Two days prior to recording this song for their album The Beatles taped it for the BBC Radio show "Pop Go The Beatles" which aired August 20. This recording was released in both the US and the UK on March 1995 as a bonus track on The Beatles' 'Baby, It's You' CD single.
On January 7, 1969, during rehearsals for the aborted "Get Back" film/album project John Lennon led the group through first a medley of this song and 'Don't Let Me Down', followed by a more complete performance. Both performances have been bootlegged.
